THE HERALD OF COMING GOOD
'THE HERALD OF COMING GOOD' was written and published by Gurdjieff in Paris,France around 1933 but the edition I have in English was published by SAMUEL WEISER New York in 1971. This book subtitled 'FIRST APPEAL TO CONTEMPORARY HUMANITY' an introduction to the 'basics' and 'aims' and a few other things offered to the public but which MR. G said they would be better off not reading.

It may well be that this is the most controversial of all the writings by Gurdjieff, at least in the estimation of J.G. Bennett in his autobiography, WITNESS
ReplyDeleteTHE HERALD OF COMING GOOD is perhaps teh more important works of GURDJIEFF when read properly and correctly(as indicated and directed by the author) because it is,to those who can understand, a concise synopsis of 'THE WORK' and 'THE SYSTEM' with enormous 'hints' and 'clues' to man's possibilities and existence.
ReplyDeleteThis book, THE HERALD OF COMING GOOD, is writtend to be both 'dangerous' and 'disturbing' and for those who read and study it,when they begin the experiments and exercises and other things, their lives will be different- either 'GOOD' or 'EVIL'.
ReplyDeleteThis book,THE HERALD OF COMING GOOD, also explains why all the 'disciples', 'followers', 'students',etc. could not continue beyond 'A CERTAIN POINT" and why most eventually abandoned 'EFFORTS' or 'WORK',etc. The varied accounts of people in their writings on Gurdjieff and his system,etc. attest to the 'AIMS' & 'GOALS' of the 'WORK' described here. The chapter outlines are excellent aids to study and reading.

This book is written to be both 'DANGEROUS' & 'DISTURBING' and,for those who read and study it,their lives will be 'DIFFERENT'-either 'good' or 'evil'!

ReplyDeleteHaving the exact date of when G. finished writing this booklet, I looked at his horoscope and can only conclude that it was an accident. G. as everybody else was not immune to difficult planetary transits.
