P. L. TRAVERS & MR. GURDJIEFF

It moight surprise you,as it did me, when I decided to research this, that P.L TRAVERS better known for being 'MARY POPPINS', that is who wrote the novel on the magical Nanny that captivated movie goers, had written an excellent book on GURDJIEFF that I personally recommend, if you can find it, for its clear, concise description that does sum up what many might like to know, of what is possible to know of Mr. Gurdjieff, without going into any extremes or elaborate details. The book is titled: GEORGE IVANOVITCH GURDJIEFF, published in my copy by TRADITIONAL STUDIES PRESS, copyright 1973 and was taken from an article that appeared in the occult, etc. encyclopedia called MAN,MYTH AND MAGIC(which I have in my library in both hard cover and some paper editions.

  1. In re-reading the thin, red booklet, by P. L TRAVERS, I can only say that if one wants a very concise, precise description of MR. GURDJIEFF & THE WORK & FOURTH WAY, in a 'nutshell',then this is the information to be looked at and studied and expanded if one is serious. P.L. Travers also wrote a foreward to: WHO ARE YOU MONSIEUR GURDJIEFF? by Rene Zuber, translated by Jenny Koralek, with a foreward by P.L. TRAVERS. The paperback edition I have was printed in Great Britain in 1980. I shall comment on this work also at another time. But the foreward is well worth reading even if one does not actually read the book itself, though perhaps the foreward will impel?compel/stimulat e readers to enter the entire body of this interesting work and see the possible answer to the question in the title, although it is quite likely they will find Mister/Monsieur GURDJIEFF more of an ENIGMA than ever before, a conditional state many excellent minds continue to find out and experience no matter what.
